Since the dawn of time singing has brought people together. Raising voices in song elevates our mood and strengthens our community.
In 2017 the Creemore Choral Festival presents the choral music from two ‘Golden Ages’: the reigns of Elizabeth I and II. These two monarchs have inspired a wealth of sumptuous choral music, from the triumphant sounds of coronations in Westminster Abbey to the more intimate singing of secular songs in private homes. The musical legacy of the ‘two Elizabeths’ is truly remarkable and is masterfully celebrated at the concert “Glorious & Free” at St. John’s United Church.

The Choir of St. Paul’s Bloor Street, Toronto is delighted to be making a return visit to St. John’s United Church on Saturday, June 3rd to perform an enchanting selection of music from the reigns of Elizabeth I and II. The programme pays tribute to the royal love of more boisterous and celebratory music in the anthems of Vaughan Williams and Healey Willan; the latter was organist at St. Paul’s Toronto and wrote music for the Coronation of Elizabeth II. The enchanting sounds of Elizabeth I’s favourite composers – William Byrd and Thomas Weelkes – will also be represented, music which conjures up images of one of the most colourful ages in English history.
